The debut solo album from the mastermind producer and lyricist of multi-platinum act Wu-Tang Clan presents Bobby Digital, the newest addition to the Wu-Tang mythology, a unique concept that utilizes all of RZA's talents. Guests include Method Man, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Ghostface Killah and others. "The Wu's biggest crossover success yet... crystal clear production, top shelf rhymes and refrains catchier than the common cold." Rolling Stone. 1st single/video: "B.O.B.B.Y."
Unlike their predecessors, who each released about an album a year, Master P and the Wu-Tang Clan dominated the mid to late 1990s with a hailstorm of discs that saturated the rap marketplace. RZA, the Wu's "i"über-producer, added to the storm with "i"Bobby Digital in Stereo, the soundtrack for a straight-to-video film directed, produced, and written by RZA under the alter ego Bobby Digital. Whether he's able to compete with Master P on the cinematic front remains to be seen, but the project surely confirms RZA's mastery of the production studio and of the hip-hop domain in general. Without sounding too threatening or gangsta, RZA--er, Digital--lays down street-lethal beats and rhythms that resonate with a futuristic cyberpunk theme. And while the songs are fairly free of melody, there are plenty of atmospheric keyboard noises, sound effects, and samples to keep things pumping. --Jon Wiederhorn
The verbal overload of RZA As Bobby Digital ... may make for a lyrically opaque experience yet musically, this album is superb. -- New Musical Express
[RZA] gives his sci-fi concept the otherworldly music it deserves.... [But] Bobby Digital in Stereo eschews the Wu's Asian mysticism and concerns itself only with the lawlessness of the male power fantasy. Of course, the fact that Bobby Digital flows like steel shavings doesn't help matters. -- Spin
[RZA] creates a hypnotic synthesized soundscape that ignores radio-friendly formulas, instead creating a deeply textured bed of industrial funk....
